Oops, I didn't write at all in April.

One of the reasons why I wasn't sure about writing a blog is that I suck at actually following through on things like this. In real life, I'm continuing to try and improve myself, but I never think, "Oh I should blog about this!" Anyways, I was reading about this project two women did called "The Naked Face Project." Their tagline is, "Two women. Sixty days. No makeup. No shaving. No primping. What happens next?"  When I saw this I thought, "No makeup? That's my average day. No shaving? I call that Winter. What happens next? Nothing, not wearing makeup 98% of the time, and not shaving during the winter are the norm for me." I read a little of one of the women's blog, and I can understand how someone who wears makeup all the time and spends a lot of time on their appearance might have a hard time giving all this up. I also commend her because she went to yoga and swimming class with hairy legs. I might not shave, but I also rarely show my legs during the winter.

Mmmmm cookies!!

I love cookies, pretty much every kind of cookie. But I do not have the money to buy cookies. Luckily, I own everything I need to make tasty oatmeal cookies! They are soooooo good and they freeze well. They are a 'cake-y' cookie, which means they are super soft. Here is the awesome and easy recipe:

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.

The dry ingredients (mix together in a large bowl):
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cups oatmeal
  • ½ cup chocolate chips/ raisins/ whatever your heart desires (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 ½ cups flour

Every day I will...

Yesterday, I got to work early and decided to make a list of things I think I should be doing every day. It's been awhile since I've posted anything and the list is definitely in line with what I want from this blog, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Walk: I should be getting up and walking every day. Even when I don't feel like I have a lot of time. Just getting off the bus one stop early will help me become healthier and fit. On my days off I shouldn't stay cooped up inside. I am going to try and walk at least 30 minutes every day.

Read my Bible: Getting myself physically fit/ healthy means nothing if I'm not getting myself spiritually fit as well. It's shouldn't even be that hard, I have a One Year Bible that breaks the bible down into a 15 minute reading a day.

Yay for manicures!

During winter my hands always get sooo dry! I end up with hangnails and, if you've ever had one, you know how much those suck! However, I do not have money to buy fancy nail soaking stuff. Well the other day I decided to paint my nails and thought, "Why not look for a homemade nail soak and turn this into a manicure instead of just a nail paint?" So I looked online and found several recipes. I wanted to use what I already had, so I had to be creative and make up my own, based on recipes already out there. First I cut and shaped my nails. You want to make sure to file on dry nails, if you wait until after they've soaked they will tear and weaken. Then, I removed my old polish and I washed my hands with a hand scrub from Mary Kay. (I was a Mary Kay person for like 5 minutes and now I have a bunch of random Mary Kay product in a box under my bed.)

Lasagna Rolls/ 100 list #93

I love those frozen lasagnas that people bring over when they are helping out with a meal. They are sooo tasty. So when I was trying to find recipes to make for my frozen dinners, I was pretty excited to come across this one. This is not an original recipe, I got it from another blog. But all the pictures are mine. I have to tell you, parts of this were super easy, but some parts were a PAIN IN THE BUTT! They did freeze beautifully and have a good texture when reheated.

Eating Better

One of the things I want to change in my life is the way I eat. I live alone and generally do not cook a lot of stuff for myself so I end up eating over-processed crap. I don't want to have to cook all the time, I don't have a dishwasher and have no desire to hand wash all the dishes I'd use to cook every night. And that's a lot of work to feed just me. So my solution is to find several recipes every month and cook a big batch of each and freeze it in individual servings so that I can just heat them up and eat. It's like home made frozen meals that you buy at the grocery store minus all the sodium, preservatives and other junk that they put it those. I've already made a few things and took lots of pictures so in the next few days I'll write posts with the recipes. Hopefully, near the beginning of every month I'll have a few new recipes to post. It's also fun (to me) to figure out how much each serving costs when I make a meal so I'll post that too! I look forward to sharing new recipes with you!!

Being Content

I just read an amazing post about being content with what you have. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this persons blog! She (I think it's a she) has several ideas that I am going to use. I think I am going to take one of her suggestions and write a list of things I have to be thankful for, but I'm going to take it a step further. I think I'll make a few lists and put them in different places like on my fridge (for when I'm complaining about having 'nothing' to eat) and in my wallet (for when I'm tempted to buy something I think I 'need'). I'm hoping it will have a Pavlov's dog type effect and thinking about what I have already will come automatically.
